IN-Person Class

Robotics with Ozobots

My other set of wheels is a robot...

Program your own Ozobot and learn all about robotics and coding!

Q. What’s a robot’s favorite exercise? A. Circuit training!

Build critical thinking and problem solving skills as you tackle maze competitions and exciting challenges using adorable Ozobots! Ozobots are a miniature smart robot that can follow lines or roam around freely, detect colors, and can also be programmed using paper and markers or a kid friendly digital program. Your nerds will learn hands-on about robotics and programming while working on daily challenges!

The nerds that love this class are interested in robotics and coding, but there is still LOTS of room for creativity, art, and building in this class! These little robots are easy to understand, but are also capable of complex tasks and conditional logic. Robotics with Ozobot is great for nerds that have no coding or robot experience, but also those that need a challenge!

Nerds will be making lots of code, tracks, mazes, costumes, and 3D obstacles for their Ozobot.

Nerds will also build a vibrating bristle bot and learn to complete a simple circuit with a motor, battery, and LED light! And doesn’t an adorable little bristle bot need a playground? We’ll have to build that, too! The bristle bot and playground will be taken home for more fun…

We will be learning to code our Ozobots, and there are 2 great ways to do that! First, we can use markers to draw tracks for the Ozobot to follow and color pattern “code” to change the behavior of the Ozobot. This is super fun and a very accessible and tangible way for younger nerds to experience coding. The other way to code is with Ozoblockly, a computer based block coding platform. Nerds can drag and drop blocks into a code sequence, load it onto their bot, and run it!

Throughout the class, nerds will learn fundamentals of coding, how robot use sensors to make decisions, and what robots do in the real world!

Our Little Nerd classes for grades 1-3, are engaging and exciting and vary greatly in content and structure, but in some form there is always direct instruction from the teacher, guided practice, and independent or small group work with help and support from peers and staff. We usually begin the day with a team building activity and move into our first lesson. Next is a hands-on activity or project. Halfway through the class, kids will take a brief recess and snack break. A second lesson follows break and the kids will do another project/activity or continue one they were working on. Bottom line: It’s hands-on, interactive, fun learning.

Class is 3hrs each day, so bring a snack for break time. Also, bring your own refillable water bottle. Don’t have one? Add our Nerding water bottle to your order and pick up on first day of class!

Your nerd will build and discover like these nerds have.

Your Teacher

Ms. Johnson

I’m a longtime nerd and I can’t wait to teach you all about robots! If I had my own robot, I would program it to do all my chores and housework so I could spend my time reading. I have been known to read 100 books in a year!

Mrs. Hess

We will have so much fun learning to code our robots together! During the school year, I’m a gifted/STEM teacher and I LOVE doing projects with my students!
